Introduction

In 1927, Carlos Eduardo Castañeda became librarian of the Genaro Garcia Collection, which became the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection. During his tenure he oversaw many major acquisitions of materials from all over Latin America. In that spirit, we present a selection of stories from our librarians from recent trips across the globe. Building world class collections can be made up of change encounters and unexpected detours.

"Carlos Castañeda's Legacy at UT Libraries: Forty Years of Distinctive Collections from Around the World" was on view in the Scholars Commons at the Perry-Castañeda Library from August - September 2017.
