Tubby the Tuba
Cosmo Record’s Tubby the Tuba (1945) was engineered as an American Peter and the Wolf, to introduce children to orchestral instruments with a titular character who must master a frog’s croak to properly perform alongside his friends. David Bonner, author of Revolutionizing Children's Records marks Tubby the Tuba (1945) as the divisive hit jumpstarting the Golden Age of Children’s Records, cementing the children’s record as a lucrative market. By 1947, 15% of records sales were for children, but many of them curated a sentimental guise that some educators, like Horace Grenell, the founder of Young People’s Records (1946-1975), detested for its lack of child-centered pedagogy. Regardless, Tubby the Tuba (1945) is here to stay and in this audio recording, you can listen to the smooth vocal narration of Hollywood treasure, Danny Kaye.
