Kottayam Pushpanath is one of the most significant detective novelists in Malayalam. His real name is Pushpanathan Pillai. One of the most widely read novelists in Kerala, his works were published in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of his works have been translated into other south Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Two of his novels--Brahmarakshasu and Anki--have been adapted into movies. Besides detective fiction (discussed here), he has also contributed to the genre of horror; yakshi (spirits) and Dracula have been the subject of such works. His narrative style evokes feelings of horror, suspense, thrill and excitement.

മലയാളത്തിലെ പ്രമുഖ അപസർപ്പക നോവലിസ്റ്റാണ് കോട്ടയം പുഷ്പനാഥ് . അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥ പേര് പുഷ്പനാഥൻ പിള്ള എന്നാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ചില ഡിറ്റക്റ്റീവ് നോവലുകൾ തമിഴ്,തെലുങ്ക്,കന്നഡ എന്നീ ഭാഷകളിൽ തർജ്ജുമ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സ് ,ചുവന്ന അങ്കി എന്നീ കൃതികൾ സിനിമയാക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട് . ഡിറ്റക്റ്റീവ് കഥകൾക്ക് പുറമേ യക്ഷികഥകളും , ഡ്രാക്കുള കഥകളും അദ്ദേഹം വിഷയമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട് . 1970 കളും 1980 കളും ആയിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൃതികളൊക്കെയും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത് . വായനക്കാരെ ഭീതിയുടെയും ആകാംക്ഷയുടെയും മുൾമുനയിൽ നിർത്തുന്നതാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രചനാരീതി . മലയാളത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തനായ അപസർപ്പക നോവലിസ്റ്റ് കോട്ടയം പുഷ്പനാഥാണെന്നു പറയാം .
